Verna Tukuafu graduated from Brigham Young University–Hawaii in 1999 with a degree in business management. Today, she serves as Area Manager for BYU–Pathway Worldwide across the Pacific region. Elder Peter M. Johnson: A Long Shot and a Higher Hand
Elder Peter M. Johnson, a BYU–Hawaii alumnus and former basketball student-athlete from Queens, New York, rose from a difficult upbringing to a life defined by faith, purpose, and service. At BYU–Hawaii, he first came to know Jesus Christ and, after converting from Islam, developed a deep love for the Savior. As the first African American General Authority Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he continues to lead and uplift others.

Aley Kahaawi Auna Jr.: The Judge, the Patriarch, and the Promptings
Aley Kahaawi Auna, Jr., a 1979 BYU–Hawaii graduate who grew up in Hilo, Hawaii, dedicated his life to faith, family, and service. Professionally, he served as Deputy Attorney General and as a State of Hawaii District Family Court Judge. He also served as a bishop, high councilor, stake president, Area Seventy, and mission president. Today, he continues as a Sealer in the Laie Hawaii Temple and as a Patriarch in the Kona Hawaii Stake. Together with his wife, Danelle, they raised six children and have seventeen grandchildren. Guided by spiritual impressions, he built a life devoted to uplifting others on the foundation of his BYU–Hawaii experience.

Thomas "Paʻa" Sibbett: From Classroom to Hollywood
Thomas Paʻakaiokahonua “Paʻa” Sibbett, a BYU–Hawaii, Hawaiian Studies graduate, discovered his love of culture and storytelling through his family and mentors. While attending BYU–Hawaii, he met his wife, found his purpose, and strengthened his faith. Now a groundbreaking creator, writer, and producer, Sibbett is best known for projects such as Chief of War, Aquaman, and Braven, sharing powerful stories with audiences around the world.

Elder Chi Hong “Sam” Wong: Standing Where the Lord Needs You
Baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 19 in Hong Kong, Elder Chi Hong “Sam” Wong brought a new testimony to BYU–Hawaii. His experience there forged a lifelong path of discipleship. Sustained as a General Authority Seventy in 2014, he has applied the same steady faith he learned in Laie to helping shepherd the Church throughout the Philippines.

Alohalani Housman: Voyaging Through Faith
Alohalani Kaluhiokalani Housman, a 1982 graduate of BYU–Hawaii, was born and raised in New Jersey with deep Hawaiian roots. She came to Lāʻie in 1978, beginning a lifelong journey to preserve and promote the Hawaiian language and culture. Now the Dean of Culture, Language, and Performing Arts, she continues that mission with passion and purpose.

Federica Tonon, from Italy, graduated from Brigham Young University–Hawaii in 2006 with degrees in International Business Management and Intercultural Communication. A former BYUH volleyball player, she went on to earn her Ph.D. and build an international career, coaching Vanuatu’s women’s national team and several other national teams, teaching across the Pacific, and contributing to the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympics.
