Alumni Highlight: A. Tauariki Kalama
Akimano "Tauariki" Numanga Kalama graduated from BYU–Hawaii in December 1988 with a degree in accounting. Born and raised in Rarotonga, Cook Islands, she boarded a plane to Tahiti at seven and never stopped taking leaps. Now the Chief Financial Officer of the Polynesian Cultural Center, Kalama's story is one of courage, grit, and faith.

Sery Kone graduated from Brigham Young University–Hawaii in June 2015 with a degree in business management. Born and raised in Côte d'Ivoire, he survived child labor on the country's cacao farms and left a corporate career to build Well Africa, a nonprofit organization providing schools and clinics across West Africa. Now a loving husband and father, Kone’s story is one of faith, perseverance, and giving back through education.

Prompting Potential

Bret Grow earned a degree in Information Systems from BYU–Hawaii in 2000. Today, he is the Director of Marketing at the Polynesian Cultural Center (PCC), where he leads traditional marketing alongside a growing AI team that has changed how the center operates and sells tickets. He believes in work that matters, and in taking the time to really know the people who do it.

Selina Walter

Selina Walter is a BYU–Hawaii alumna originally from Chuuk, Micronesia, now back home building her career and serving her community. She graduated in April 2026 with a Bachelor's degree in Political Science. Today, she's putting her legal and political knowledge to work as a Legislative Editor with the Legal Counsel at the Chuuk State Legislature, helping shape policy and strengthen governance in her home state.

Tekarohi grew up on the island of Tahiti and in 2019 was accepted to BYU–Hawaii, where she studied Hospitality and Tourism Management. Today, she's the CEO of Tahiti Expert Events, French Polynesia's leading event agency. For over a decade, the agency has partnered with local institutions and businesses on development and communication strategies, working with international names like Warner Bros. Pictures, FIFA, and the World Health Organization, as well as top Polynesian resorts like the Four Seasons Bora Bora. Tekarohi has turned her island roots into a career connecting Polynesia with the world.
