Adhika Kusuma, born and raised in Indonesia, graduated from BYU–Hawaii in 2013. He now serves as Chief Executive Officer of PT. Lintas Solusi Inovasi, a business consulting company and the president of the BYU–Hawaii Indonesia Alumni Chapter.

From Jakarta to Laie

Born into a Latter-day Saint family in Indonesia, Kusuma served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Indonesia Jakarta Mission from 2006 to 2008 before enrolling at BYU–Hawaii. When Kusuma first arrived in Laie in 2010, he couldn’t have imagined how deeply BYU–Hawaii would shape the course of his life. “Coming from Indonesia, English wasn’t my first language,” he recalled. “I experienced culture shock. But I wasn’t alone. So many international students were going through the same thing. That gave me strength.”

Indeed, his time in Laie became transformative. “Because of BYU–Hawaii, I became who I am today,” Kusuma shared. “I built a network with friends from all over the world. I strengthened my faith and kept my standards high.” He found both spiritual and academic support through a loving bishop, a strong ward, and dedicated faculty. “They became like family when I missed home.”

Kusuma majored in business management and marketing and was active on campus. He served as president of the Indonesian Club from 2012 to 2013 and worked at the Polynesian Cultural Center, assisting various islands with their music performances. “Being involved helped me stay connected and grounded,” he shared.

Leadership and Service

After graduation, Kusuma returned home and began his career in sales, later moving into education and eventually into entrepreneurship. Today, he owns PT. Lintas Solusi Inovasi, a business consulting company where he serves as CEO. With a team of about 20 professionals, the firm helps businesses grow through smart, practical solutions in marketing, business development, and digital transformation. “I needed a new challenge,” he said of his shift to business ownership. “It was time to improve myself in new ways.”

He has also continued to serve faithfully in the church. After returning from Hawaii, he was quickly called as a ward leader and later served for nearly five years as a bishopric and high councilor in his stake afterward. He currently serves as a bishop for his ward. Kusuma and his wife, Greace, were married in December 2017 and sealed in the Laie Hawaii Temple the following month. They are now raising three sons, ages six, five, and four. Their sealing, performed by President Taala, included counsel to always center their lives on Christ, a principle they continue to live by today.

More Than Networking

Now, as president of the Indonesia Alumni Chapter, Kusuma is determined to build something meaningful. In just a few months, he’s been reaching out to fellow alumni one by one and preparing for their first official gathering. “I want the chapter to be useful, not just for networking, but for real support,” he explained.

This includes helping recent graduates prepare for the workforce, mentoring those in transition, and easing the way for prospective students planning to study at BYU–Hawaii. “If we can help them manage their expectations before they even arrive in Laie, they’ll be more prepared and less overwhelmed,” he says.

Character Over Career

For Kusuma, what he learned at BYU–Hawaii was his life’s blueprint. “I entered committed to getting the best education I could,” he shared. “And I left committed to serve. That meant going home and using everything I gained—spiritually, academically, and professionally—to build the Lord’s kingdom in Indonesia.”

He believes that education shapes character more than careers. “It proves to the world that you’re dedicated, diligent, and ready to contribute,” he says. “That’s what BYU–Hawaii gave me. And now it’s my turn to give back.”
