BYU–HAWAII ALUMNI AWARDS
The Alumni Awards recognize outstanding BYU–Hawaii alumni who are fulfilling President David O. McKay's prophecy to "influence for good", "establish peace internationally" and serve as "genuine gold "leaders who cannot be "bought or sold". Alumni
awards are given to those who have provided outstanding leadership to
their families, communities, professions, or the Church.
January 2013 GENUINE GOLD RECIPIENT: Jui Chang Juan, 1988

As a young man, Elder Jui Chang Juan served as a full-time missionary in
Taiwan. “I was challenged by my stake and mission presidents to
graduate from BYU–Hawaii and return to Taiwan because my country needed
me. Because I followed this counsel, I was blessed. I was able to use
the skills I gained at BYU–Hawaii to bless the lives of many Taiwanese
people.” While in school, Elder Juan and his wife were blessed with twin boys who
would later join the ranks of BYU–Hawaii alumni as well. Of his
university experience, Elder Juan says, “My desire was to learn English
so that I could hear the Prophet’s voice directly rather than through
translation.”

January 2013 YOUNG ALUMNI AWARD RECIPIENT : Joseph Sybrowsky, 2007

Joseph Sybrowsky began his first year at BYU–Hawaii after he served as a
full-time missionary in Brazil. While he was attending school he met
his wife Shauna and they were married in the San Diego Temple on July
22, 2006. They have been blessed with two little boys, Jackson Paul and
Joseph McKay who was named after President McKay. Joseph and his family live in Rexburg, Idaho, where Joseph works as the
General Manager of SpringHill Suites, part of the Marriott family of
hotels. In a short period of time, he has received many awards...
