Academic Leadership at BYU
Dr. Peter Chan is an adjunct associate professor at the McKay School of Education at BYU, where he plays a pivotal role in overseeing China-related programs and teaching classes in instructional psychology and technology.
Global Educational Entrepreneurship
Beyond academia, Dr. Chan is the owner of Multinational Academy Services, a venture instrumental in administering international schools in China and two private schools in the U.S. Before the challenges posed by COVID-19, the academy facilitated the arrival of over two thousand international students to the United States.
Strategic Advisor and Legislative Contributor
Dr. Chan serves as an advisor to several high-level collaborative projects between China and the State of Utah. His legislative impact is evident in SCR9 Concurrent Resolution Honoring the Life and Achievements of Helen Foster Snow, a resolution signed into law by Governor Spencer Cox in April 2022.
Literary Pursuits
An author in the making, Dr. Chan is currently working on a book titled: “The Universal Model of Problem-Solving: A Cognitive Framework for Solving Professional and Personal Problems.”
Academic Journey and Recognition
Before joining BYU, Dr. Chan served for eight years as a faculty member at BYU–Hawaii, chairing a program of instructional design and development. During his tenure, he achieved continuing faculty status and earned recognition as Teacher of the Year. Dr. Chan also spent six years as an adjunct assistant professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
Spiritual and Personal Journey
Dr. Chan's spiritual journey began when he joined the Church in Hong Kong at the age of 16. He later served a mission in Hong Kong and graduated from BYU–Hawaii with a degree in information systems in 1995.
Family and Church Service
In a delightful twist of fate, Peter met his dear wife Joyce in the singles ward at BYU–Hawaii while serving as her home teacher, and she was his Sunday school teacher. They have been blessed with three children and two grandchildren. Peter has actively served in various callings, including a stint as a bishop in a married student ward at BYU–Hawaii and his current role as a bishop in the Edgemont 22nd Ward (Provo Chinese ward).
